Test stations for superconducting magnets

CASPER I (KIT)

Test facility for superconducting undulator technology. CASPER I is an operating vertical cryostat where coils with maximum dimensions of 35 cm length and 30 cm diameter can be immersed in liquid helium for testing.

  • Electron beam energy range between 2 MeV and 4 MeV,
  • Pulse widths down to 500 ns,
  • Pulse repetition rates in the range 1 to 400 Hz.

CASPER II (KIT)

Horizontal, cryogen-free test stand to perform quality certification (max. length 1500 mm, max. diameter 500 mm) of new superconducting systems and insertion devices. It also serves to test small prototype coils in a cryogen-free environment.
