G. Platforms for manufacturing, treatments and test of magnet components for accelerator

Magnet winding workshop (CEA)

The workshop is equiped with two winding machines. One is used to wind solenoid magnets with external diameters of up to 2 m. The other one is dedicated to coils with a vertical rotation axis for realization of accelerator magnets of lengths up to 3 m or pancake coils. Other features:

  • Presses,
  • Furnace,
  • Impregnation bay available for heat treatment, polymerization and impregnation of coils.

Large magnets assembly facility B.180 and B.181 (CERN)

  • Manufacture, maintenance and technical support of the accelerator's superconducting magnets,
  • Definition, manufacture and maintenance of busbars, electrical connections and interconnections,
  • Installation, maintenance and operation of the coil zone,
  • Development of tools for new projects and their supplies.

Superconducting magnet laboratory (CIEMAT)

This facility is composed by the following infrastructures and / or activities:

  • Test stations for superconducting magnets,
  • Magnetic measurement facilities,
  • Test stations for thermal and electrical testing (at cryogenic temperatures),
  • Platforms for manufacturing treatments and test of magnet components for accelerator.

Test-stand for characterization of superconductors (IFJ-PAN)

Robotic magnet workshop (KIT)

VPI facility (KIT)

Karlsruhe-CERN collaboration on Coated conductor - KC4 (KIT)

KARA (KIT)

The research infrastructure Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA) provides a 2.5-GeV storage ring and light source for experiments with electron beams and intense electromagnetic, synchrotron radiation for deep insights into matter, in biological structures and materials.

FLUTE (KIT)

The new FLUTE facilitiy (name abbreviation derived from its German name: Ferninfrarot Linac- und Test-Experiment) serves as an accelerator test facility for a variety of accelerator physics studies.
