CRYOMECHA - Pressurized superfluid helium cryostat (CEA)

This platform benefits from a transnational access provided by the EURO-LABS - EUROpean Laboratories for Accelerator Based Science project.

Lights

Physical measurements in pressurized superfluid helium (dimensions of the sample: Φ ≤ 200 mm and h ≤ 200 mm, 1.6 K ≤ T ≤ 2.15 K).

  • Double bath cryostat with Hampson exchanger and without nitrogen shield,
  • The bath at T=4.2 K is supplied by dewar,
  • Pumping group composed of a 300 m3/h vane pump, a 1000 m3/h Roots pump and a 2000 m3/h Roots pump,
  • Automated cryostat control system (helium transfer, helium level, test bath at 1 mK and maximum power of 15 W),
  • Multi-channel fast data acquisition system (333 kHz / number of channels).

CRYOMECHA - Measurement of the Thermal Conductivity of Insulators and Conductors - MECTIX (CEA)

This platform benefits from a transnational access provided by the EURO-LABS - EUROpean Laboratories for Accelerator Based Science project.

Lights

This station has a cryogenerator-cooled variable temperature measurement cell for carrying out thermal conductivity measurements on samples of around 10 cm in length in a temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K.

  • Measurement cell cooled with a cryogenerator (P = 1.5 W à 4.2 K),
  • Sample cell: temperature measurements with an accuracy of ± 5 mK for 4 K ≤ T ≤ 100 K, and ± 10 mK for T > 100 K,
  • Automated measurement sequences with multi-channel fast data acquisition system.

Superconducting Magnet Lab (CIEMAT)

  • Test stations for superconducting magnets: Superconductivity laboratory for testing magnets up to 2000 A and other superconducting devices. It includes power supplies, 3 helium cryostats, instrumentation, and a dry cryostat cooled with cryocooler.
  • Magnetic measurement facilities: Magnetic measurements instrumentation, high precision mechanical 3D system with a Hall sensor for measurement of large magnetic devices, rotating coil system for the measurement of dipole, quadrupole and sextupole field quality.
  • Test stations for thermal and electrical testing (at cryogenic temperatures): Sumitomo RDK 415D Cryocooler. Leybold cryocooler. Autonomous liquefactor for liquid helium production, Cryogenic Supply System, CSS.
  • Platforms for manufacturing treatments and test of magnet components for accelerator: Assembly Hall for the fabrication and mounting of accelerators components. It includes 3 winding tables, mechanical measurements instrumentation, etc...

Cryogenic Test Laboratory (STFC)

ASTeC is in a unique position to have expertise in Surface Science, RF-Technology, Superconductivity and Cryogenics. In addition to the conventional apparatus for measuring electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity, a couple of state of the art experiments have been introduced for the measurement of surface resistance at radio frequencies and measurement of penetrating or trapped magnetic fields in superconducting materials. The laboratory is equipped with a range of closed cycle refrigerators and a number of liquid helium cryostats for conducting experiments at temperatures as low as 1.5 K in magnetic fields up to 2 Tesla.​
